The purification center has served as an outreach anchor to educate and build public support and acceptance of SCVWD efforts to expand its potable reuse efforts. In the past the District has held several special events that have helped highlighted the purification center and purified water. Tours of SCVWD
The District outreach team held its first large-scale Community Open House on Oct. 24, 2015. It featured guided tours, a video water galley, kid’s fun zone, and “Taste Test Challenge” in a festive setting.
In February 2016, The District partnered with Silicon Valley Reads and held a special Saturday tour taken by more than people in one day with even more attendees taking the “Taste Test Challenge.”
The Santa Clara Valley Water District hosted nearly 60 Latino families who visited the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center (SVAWPC) on July 25, 2016 for the first ever Latino Community Tour Day. The event included special tours offered in Spanish, along with hands-on educational games and activities for kids and even taste test samples of the highly purified water produced onsite.
